CEC accepted documents for Lukashenko’s registration as Presidential candidate
On December 17th, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus accepted the documents to register incumbent President Aleksandr Lukashenko as a candidate for the presidency of the Republic of Belarus. The documents were submitted to the CEC on the basis of a power of attorney from Aleksandr Lukashenko by Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus Yuri Senko.
In accordance with the calendar plan for the preparation of the 2025 election, the documents required for registration as a Presidential candidate must be submitted to the CEC by December 21st inclusive. The documents can be submitted both by potential Presidential candidates themselves and by those authorised to represent them.
“Today, by the President’s power of attorney, I have submitted documents to the Central Election Commission for the registration of Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko as a Presidential candidate,” Mr. Senko noted.
The Chairman of Belarus’ Federation of Trade Unions also said that the stage of collecting signatures was absolutely calm.
“The stage included pickets on the streets, visits to enterprises, and work in those places that were identified for signature collection by local authorities. People met with members of the initiative group with great interest and enthusiasm and left their signatures. I believe that all subsequent stages will also take place in a calm, normal mode. The population wants it. It was felt during the collection of signatures,” he added.
It should be reminded that a person nominated as a Presidential candidate submits the following documents to the Central Election Commission: a written statement of consent to run for office; biographical information in the form established by the CEC; certificates or copies of documents confirming information on education, place of work and position held by the employee; declarations of his/her income and property, as well as income and property of his/her spouse and adult close relatives living together and maintaining a common household.
