Belarus’ Defence Minister: new T-72BM2 tank already being tested
Belarus’ Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, visited the 174th training ground of the Air Force and Air Defence Forces, where he was shown a training session of the team that will represent Belarus at the 2022 International Army Games in the ‘Tank Biathlon’ competition – as reported by the Defence Ministry’s Telegram channel
Mr. Khrenin also got acquainted with the newest T-72BM2 tank, upgraded by Belarusian specialists at the 140th Repair Plant. The vehicle is now being tested – to further join the Belarusian army.
“Our new T-72BM2 tank has been demonstrated to the public for the first time today. We were faced with the task set by the President – among others: to make a new and modern tank by the summer. As we have got convinced, this goal has been achieved. The T-72BM2 tank fully meets the stated requirements and is already undergoing a number of tests. Afterwards, a decision will be made on its serial production and sending such vehicles to the army. Importantly, this tank has been produced by our people, at the 140th Repair Plant. Effectiveness, power, security and convenience were among the main requirements during the tank production, and – thanks our specialists – the vehicle fully meets these criteria," the Defence Minister stated.
As for training of Belarusian tankers, they – as noted by Mr. Khrenin – showed their mettle. “I would like to wish the guys to have the will to win and a high competitive spirit, to return home as victors, with good results. We, in turn, will be waiting for them,” the Defence Minister added.
