Belarus’ Defence Minister: draft Military Doctrine became more precise and specific
This was stated by Belarus’ Defence Minister Viktor Khrenin in his talk with the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA reports
The draft Military Doctrine will be considered on the second day of the session of the Belarusian People’s Congress on April 25th. “This is a fundamentally new document, which has undergone significant changes. This is the fourth edition of the Military Doctrine. The correction of such documents does not happen at random. This is a trend of the time and is dictated by the situation. Firstly, we see what’s happening around our country: the huge concentration of NATO troops at our borders, a set of measures to prepare for war, the aggressive rhetoric of unfriendly states, political, economic and sanctions pressure on Belarus, as well as the conflict in the south of our country. All these forced us to look at the current doctrine and make appropriate changes. The Constitution has also been amended. These are the main components that forced us to reconsider the doctrine,” Viktor Khrenin underlined.
According to him, the draft doctrine has become more precise and specific. “We analysed the military dangers, the escalation system, and the nature of conflicts. If we take escalation, then the military danger is divided into risks, challenges and threats. Accordingly, the nature of the danger can be either internal or external. Each element characterising the military danger is described in the doctrine, enabling people to understand at what stage of the escalation of the relevant conflict we are. Then specific steps and response measures are indicated,” the Defence Minister added.
In his opinion, the document will be relevant for about a decade. However, it is not quite right to make forecasts yet, as the global situation is changing very quickly. “The National Security Concept – which will also be considered today – has become the basis for the doctrine. Almost all government agencies, science, and parliamentarians participated in the work on it. The document turned out to be very precise and distinct,” he concluded.
