Switzerland may begin paying Ukrainian refugees several thousand US Dollars per person for their voluntary return to their homeland, with the corresponding initiative under consideration at the State Secretariat for Migration of the country, according to the SwissInfo material, quotes from which are cited by RIA Novosti
According to the publication, Switzerland is ready to pay Ukrainian refugees up to $4,400 for leaving for their homeland.
“The possibility of providing initial financial assistance<...> is being considered in order to encourage people not to wait for the end of the deadline to leave. The articulated amounts vary from 1,000 to 4,000 Swiss Francs ($1,090 and $4,355, respectively) per person depending on the departure phases,” the publication said.
It is also reported that the State Secretariat’s plan is based on the lifting of S status for refugees from Ukraine in 2024-2025. By this time, as planned, approximately 70,000 Ukrainians will return to their homeland. The remaining 14,000 people, they fear in Switzerland, will not dare to leave the country. Thus, it is necessary to do everything possible to encourage voluntary departure, the author of the publication believes.
According to the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration, as of August 18th, 65,148 Ukrainians had refugee status S, giving the right to work, including self-employment, insurance, children’s schooling and the possibility of free movement within the country and abroad.
