The 8th regional meeting of CIS border agencies’ heads was held in Khiva (Republic of Uzbekistan), attended by delegations of border agencies from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, a delegation of the Co-ordination Service of the Council of Commanders of the Border Troops, as well as delegations of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre and the Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

Konstantin Molostov made a report on the situation in the Belarusian section of the CIS external borders, underlining that the Baltic States and Poland continue to build up the NATO military force and conduct military manoeuvres near our borders. At the same time, neighbouring countries are trying to economically isolate Belarus by closing most checkpoints and ignoring agreements on the number of vehicles accepted on functioning international routes.

Speaking about the situation on the southern borders, the Chairman of the State Border Committee noted that the situation on the border with Ukraine remains difficult. Ukraine continues to involve various armed and volunteer formations in its border protection, which significantly increases the risk of them committing provocations on the Belarusian-Ukrainian section of the border.

The official stated that the Belarusian border department is in full control of the developing situation on the Belarusian section of the CIS external border.

The meeting participants summarised that the dynamic transformation of the geopolitical situation and international relations have a significant impact on the state of border security in Central Asia and other regions. In this regard, border agencies will continue to consolidate efforts for the high-quality implementation of the CIS co-operation programmes in strengthening border security at external borders and in combating terrorism and extremism.
