Lukashenko: work to establish partnerships between EAEU and third countries needs to be systematised

Work to establish partnerships between the EAEU member states and third countries needs to be systematised – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, during today’s meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council held in an expanded format in Moscow

Aleksandr Lukashenko noted that our geopolitical opponents are trying to isolate us from cutting-edge technologies and premium markets and to hold back our development.

“However, despite this, we are systematically moving forward. A full-fledged trade agreement has been signed with Iran, and mutually beneficial co-operation in the ‘five’ format with promising friendly countries – Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Mongolia – is being strengthened. Today we will launch negotiations on a temporary trade agreement with Ulaanbaatar. Meanwhile, the work to establish partnerships with third countries, in our opinion, needs to be systematised. In the current geo-economic realities, it is necessary to clearly understand with which countries, in what sequence and within what time frame a free trade zone will be formed, and with which of the potential partners we will limit our interaction within memorandums.”

According to Aleksandr Lukashenko, so far little attention has been paid to dialogue between the EAEU and the African continent.

“Africa desperately needs a wide range of our goods, works, services and technologies. Africa, like Latin America, is already fed up with colonialism from the corresponding leading countries. This is the moment when we must come to Africa,” the Belarusian leader underlined.

The President of Belarus emphasised that parallel participation in the SCO and BRICS opens up enormous benefits for all EAEU members and our CIS partners, “Anyway, we should not forget about our closest neighbours, friends, and brothers. Interaction with EAEU observer states and CIS members should be in the area of constant and close attention.”
