As reported by the Agriculture and Food Minister, Sergei Bartosh, sowing of spring crops continues in Belarus, and more than one million hectares have already been sown (45 percent of the planned territory and 5 percent more than in the same period last year). However, there has been a lag as regards some crops: i.e. sugar beet, flax, and spring rape. “Precipitation is definitely the main reason,” he tried to explain, but the President said the reason was actually rooted not in the weather conditions.

“Precipitation is not the point: fields become dry just a couple of days after a rain, especially now. We now need to sow in a military manner – working day and night. We need to put the grain in the soil these days. The weather will be warm, the moisture is going away, so we need to throw the grain in time. In some cases, we should ask the machine operators for help, and somewhere it is necessary to demonstrate the authority that was hardly observed even in the Stalin times. By May 9th, we must sow everything, including corn. Therefore, it is necessary to work day and night, and there is no other way in this regard,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.
