1,200+ habitats of wild animals and plants protected in Belarus

The figure was voiced by Tatiana Zheleznova, a consultant of the Department of Biological and Landscape Diversity of the Main Directorate for Waste Management, Biological and Landscape Diversity at the Ministry of Natural Resources

Ms. Zheleznova noted that the largest number of such territories is located in the Minsk Region (about 450), which is followed by the Grodno and Gomel regions. In addition to transferring their habitats under protection, the Ministry of Natural Resources ensures the development and approval of population management plans.

“The country has developed and is now implementing sixteen action plans aimed at preservation of wild animals, in addition to 30 action plans to protect wild plants included in the Red Book of Belarus or subject to international treaties, as well as those included in the management plans of the European lynx population and the auroch population management plan in Belarus,” Ms. Zheleznova added.
