It is noted that those gathered for the demonstration have two key demands: to stop funding for Ukraine and France’s withdrawal from NATO.

The protest march took place in the French capital at the call of the right-wing Patriots party. Its leader, Florian Philippot, tore the NATO and EU flags in front of the crowd. According to him, in this way the protesters are symbolically dealing with the symbol of enslavement and war, meaning the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as the symbol of subordination to the oligarchy: the EU.

The For Peace rally participants gathered in the centre of Paris on the Palais Royal Square opposite the Louvre Museum, burning torches with smoke in the colours of the French flag and singing the Marseillaise. The slogans on the posters called for peace, to stop NATO and Europe. The marchers also loudly called for withdrawal from NATO as soon as possible.

French President Emmanuel Macron announced in February 2024 that he would make every effort to prevent Russia from becoming the winner in the Ukrainian conflict, proposing to transfer troops to the special military operation zone, but the idea was not supported. In March, the French leader said that the state ‘has set no limits or red lines’ in matters of assistance to Ukraine.

Later, the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, announced that France had begun training 2,000 military personnel to be sent to the special military operation zone.
