FM: Belarus-China co-operation is model of new type of international relations

Co-operation between Belarus and China is an example of a new type of international relations – as stated by Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik during talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, sb.by reports with reference to the Belarusian Foreign Ministry’s press service

Among the topics discussed at the talks were bilateral relations, trade and economic co-operation, regional issues, the Belt and Road initiative, SCO and BRICS issues, as well as a schedule of contacts at various levels.

"The countries are working together to establish and strengthen a more equitable, multipolar system in the world. At the same time, they do not accept external pressure and illegal sanctions from the United States and the collective West, which undermine the stability and development of economic ties between most countries," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted.

It is reported that the parties agreed to continue to support each other in defending fundamental national interests in the international arena. “Belarus’ Foreign Minister confirmed support for the initiatives of global security, global development and global civilisation put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, calling for strengthening international dialogue and co-operation. These concepts are of great importance for solving urgent problems facing the modern world," the source added.

The parties also touched upon the Ukrainian issue. “China, unlike poorly educated populists from a number of Western countries, wisely and far-sightedly appreciates the opinion and vision of Belarus regarding the prospects for resolving and developing the situation. We share Beijing's approaches to resolving the crisis," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry added.

It is emphasised that China also considers it pointless to hold a peace conference in Switzerland in the format that its organisers categorically promote.

The parties also discussed the work of the Belarusian-Chinese Intergovernmental Co-operation Committee, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. An understanding has been reached on the need to strengthen the co-ordinating role of this bilateral instrument.

The Chinese side supported the deepening of Belarus' co-operation with BRICS and the work of the Belarusian side within the SCO.
