According to the Polish Internet portal, farmers have chosen the capital of Wielkopolski Voivodeship – the city of Poznan – as the centre of the new protest action. The blocking of highways was organised by demonstrators in other settlements of this voivodeship. The police inform drivers about possible traffic difficulties, asking them to take detours.

The action organised by protesters in the central regions of Poland was a continuation of the farmers’ protest in Katowice, which hosted the 16th European Economic Congress on May 7th, attended by Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and Polish PM Donald Tusk. Near the building where the event took place, demonstrators put up wheelbarrows with manure and a black coffin symbolising the current situation of Polish agricultural producers.

According to the organisers of the action, the protest is directed against EU’s Green Deal environmental programme and the import of cheap agricultural products from Ukraine.
