Lukashenko laid wreath at Eternal Flame monument in Baku

President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has taken part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame monument on the Alley of Martyrs in Baku

The idea of creating the Eternal Flame monument was first proposed in 1994. The grand opening of the memorial complex on the Alley of Martyrs took place on October 9th, 1998. The monument is a tomb (turbe) standing on an eight-pointed star, topped with a gold-coloured glass dome. The golden glass dome glowing in the night sky embodies the sacred spirit of the shahids, who gave their lives for the independence of Azerbaijan.
