Petrishenko: Belarus-Azerbaijan mutual trade developing intensively

The mutual trade of Belarus and Azerbaijan in food products is developing intensively and makes a significant contribution to ensuring food security of the two countries – as stated by Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Igor Petrishenko at the opening of the Caspian Agro and Inter Food international exhibitions in Baku, sb.by reports

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that Belarus takes an active part in these exhibitions every year, and it has brought meat, dairy products, confectionery, fish, alcoholic beverages and other types of food to Baku this time. In addition, various types of fertilisers, chemicals for plant treatment, veterinary medicines, agricultural machinery, and tire products are widely represented.

"Mutual trade between Belarus and Azerbaijan in food products is developing intensively and makes a significant contribution to ensuring food security of the two countries,” Mr. Petrishenko stressed, adding that Belarus traditionally exports significant volumes and a wide range of meat, dairy and other products, including as raw materials for the food processing industry, to Azerbaijan.

“Belarusian products can be bought in any Azerbaijani supermarket and six specialised stores operating in Baku under the Belaruski [Belarusian] brand at present. We hope that Belarusian food stores will soon open in other cities of Azerbaijan,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. In turn, Azerbaijani vegetables, fruits, nuts that do not grow in Belarus due to the climatic conditions, as well as high-quality Azerbaijani olive oil are in great demand among Belarusian buyers.

The exhibition also features an exposition of Belarusian agricultural machinery. Mr. Petrishenko noted, “Due to its reliability, ease of maintenance and affordable price, the machinery is widely popular among large Azerbaijani agricultural holdings and farmers. At the moment, 70 percent of tractors operating in Azerbaijan have come from Belarus. I am convinced that Caspian Agro and Inter Food will become the birthplace of new business ideas and open up new opportunities for mutually beneficial co-operation for the benefit of our friendly countries and fraternal peoples.”
