Wall Street Journal: Trump proposed sending EU troops to oversee ceasefire in Ukraine
US President elect Donald Trump fielded a proposal to deploy European troops to Ukraine to control the ceasefire mode, TASS reports
At the December 7th meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump said he supports ‘a strong, armed Ukraine, but is against its NATO membership’.
Trump believes Europe should shoulder the main burden when it comes to ensuring security and support for Ukraine. The US may facilitate that process, but won’t send troops there.
According to The Wall Street Journal, EU officials believe Trump has no detailed plan on how to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Citing official sources, The Wall Street Journal claimed the idea was proposed by the future head of the White house administration.
