Lukashenko arrived in Oman on working visit
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko has arrived in the Sultanate of Oman on a working visit, with the Head of State’s aircraft landing at the Muscat International Airport, BelTA reports
Negotiations with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman are scheduled. The leaders will discuss the state and prospects for the development of relations and areas where bilateral co-operation could be given additional impetus. The heads of state will also exchange views on the current international agenda.
The relations between Belarus and Oman are built on the foundation that was laid back in 2007 during Aleksandr Lukashenka’s first-ever visit to the country. Since then, the parties have significantly increased the legal framework for bilateral interaction, landmark high-level visits have taken place, and joint work is underway across a number of areas.
The main focus of Aleksandr Lukashenko’s current visit will be on trade-economic liaisons. It is about expanding trade turnover, developing co-operation in industry and agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest.
The Head of State was welcomed at the airport by Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi and President of the Investment Agency Abdulsalam Al Murshidi.
Just before Aleksandr Lukashenko’s arrival, Ambassador of Belarus to Egypt and Oman Sergei Terentiev shared with journalists his vision of the prospects of co-operation between the two countries.
“We need to convert favourable political capital, the favourable atmosphere of political relations into the economic sphere: to intensify our trade, technological exchanges, and investment co-operation,” the diplomat said.
According to him, there are also prospects in the sphere of science and high technologies. It is important to develop humanitarian liaisons, including in the field of tourism. “There is great interest in our achievements in the field of healthcare,” the Ambassador stressed.
All these areas will be addressed during the upcoming negotiations at the highest level.
