A high-ranking official told reporters that Yoon Suk Yeol ordered to shoot down North Korean drones and also to immediately take countermeasures against the North, demonstrating that the South also has them.
The source also rejected criticism from the main opposition Democratic Party that the Presidential Office could not properly handle the situation without even convening a meeting of the National Security Council.
"It was not a situation to hold a meeting, and it was not even needed. The National Security Adviser, Kim Sung-han, received instructions from Yoon Suk Yeol and promptly relayed them to the military, also carrying out the overall co-ordination of a response to the invasion of drones from the crisis centre," he added.
On December 26th, five North Korean drones violated the airspace of South Korea. One of them even reached Seoul, and four others flew near Ganghwa Island. Later, according to South Korea, the first drone managed to return to the North, while the remaining ones disappeared from radar.
