Sergeyenko: Belarus and Cuba to face modern challenges together
Belarus has great respect for Cuba and its people who exemplify great resilience, courage, loyalty, and patriotism, said Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus’ National Assembly Igor Sergeyenko at the second House of Representatives session where MPs discussed a draft Resolution by the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus calling on the United States to remove its economic, commercial, and financial embargo against the Republic of Cuba
“The relations between our countries today are exceptionally open and friendly. We communicate closely, including at the parliamentary level,” said Mr. Sergeyenko.
As the Speaker reminded, on December 3rd, 2022, during a visit of the Cuban National Assembly of People's Power President to Belarus, the parties signed a memorandum on co-operation between the two parliaments. The memorandum became a robust foundation for future bilateral relations and the documents underpinning it, along with the results-focused communications concerning legislative matters.
“Continuing on from the memorandum, we signed a co-operation treaty in 2023, expressing our readiness to provide mutual support at the international scene when it comes to defending sovereignty of Belarus and Cuba, and the rights of the Belarusian and Cuban people to independently choose the path for their development,” he added.
Mr. Sergeyenko also pointed out that illegal economic sanctions have replaced open dialogue as the main tool for advancing the so-called collective West’s geopolitical interests, including when it comes to Belarus and Cuba.
”The world is changing. The ever greater number of nations come openly out against that policy of blackmail and brutal pressure, recognising the need for a new multipolar world. I firmly believe our discussions today will highlights the Belarusian and Cuban resolve to face modern challenges together and facilitate our co-operation in all areas,” the Speaker stated.
