Protests becoming more radical in Germany
Protests of opponents of restrictive measures imposed due to the spread of coronavirus infection in Germany are partly becoming more radical, while violence is growing – as stressed by Steve Alter from German Interior Ministry, RIA Novosti reports
“We acknowledge that protests are partly becoming more radical – being more often accompanied by violence,” Mr. Alter said at a briefing in Berlin, adding that this trend ‘does not concern all participants’ of street actions.
According to the German Interior Ministry’s representative, a right-wing radical element is present among protesters. Law enforcement officers are closely watching this.
Protest campaigns gather not many people but take place regularly in Germany in the form of street festivities against the background of tightening measures in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection.
In Germany, 84,183 thousand people live and, by now, 7,059,346 COVID-19 cases have been registered. 111,752 people died due to coronavirus, and 6,277,400 patients – who had previously tested positive for COVID-19 – recovered.
