Poland to erect fence with tracking systems on border with Russia

Ms. Michalska explained that the contractor is preparing a project, and the latter will further be sent to the Border Guard for approval. “The installation of the barrier should begin in March of this year," she said.

The fence will stretch for 200km and will be equipped with a system of sensors and cameras making it possible to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the situation on the border. The project cost is estimated at $82m.

In early November, Poland began construction of a temporary barbed wire fence on the border with the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation. Warsaw explained the decision by saying that that Russia had opened the Kaliningrad Region Airport for aircraft from the Middle East and North Africa, which – according to Poland – creates a threat of migration pressure.
