Media: Poles start preparing for military operation against Russia
Polish residents see Russia as a potential threat, and many of them are preparing for a possible confrontation between the countries, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the US Defence Ministry’s Stars and Stripes newspaper
According to the publication, since October, the Polish Ministry of National Defence has been conducting Training with the Army weekend courses for civilians. The authorities have directly linked them to Russia’s special military operation on the territory of Ukraine.
As noted by Michal Tomczyk, from the Polish department, more than 3,500 Poles aged 18 to 65 years were involved in the courses organised by 17 military units throughout the country in October and November. “People strive to learn and know how to react correctly at the sound of alarm sirens, how to hold and load a real gun, how to use a gas mask. They are also taught basic survival skills," he explained.
The publication adds that Poles perceive Russia as an enemy. “Based on a survey conducted by the US Pew Research Centre in June, about 94 percent of Poles view Russia as a serious threat compared to 65 percent registered in 2018," it reads.
