Media: Malaysia preparing to join BRICS

Malaysia will soon begin the process of joining the BRICS, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said in an interview with Chinese media outlet Guancha, Reuters reports

In 2023, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates joined the BRICS, and more than 40 countries expressed interest.

“We’ve made a decision, and we will carry out formal procedures in the near future. We’re just waiting for the final results from the South African government,” Anwar Ibrahim said.

A representative of the Malaysian PM’s office confirmed his comments to the news agency. Anwar Ibrahim himself did not provide more detailed information about the application process during the interview.
