Lukashenko to take part in nationwide meeting of student teams
President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko will take part in the nationwide meeting of student teams today, BelTA reports
The event was organised at the Sports Palace in Minsk. The Head of State will get acquainted with the exhibition that consists of six interactive platforms presenting the activities of pedagogical, production, construction, agricultural, medical and service student teams.
The President will then attend the closing ceremony of the third labour semester of 2024.
Aleksandr Lukashenko was invited to attend the meeting during his visit to the Traktor Stadium in Minsk. The combined student construction teams were involved in the reconstruction of the facility, and they were present at the renovated stadium during the President’s visit. The students took the opportunity to invite the Head of State to the nationwide meeting of student construction teams in December this year. Aleksandr Lukashenko said that meetings with construction workers are like a balm on his heart, because it gives him an opportunity to remember his student life. “If it works out, I will be happy to visit your family,” he said.
The history of the student construction movement in Belarus dates back to 1963. It reached its peak in the 1980s, when about 35 thousand young people became members of student teams. The movement received a new impetus thanks to the Presidential decree of May 12th, 2005, which regulates the activities of student teams and defines preferences for their participants.
More than 55 thousand people have been employed in 3,909 squads. The facilities that received the status of the All-Belarusian youth construction site include the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant (BelNPP), the overhaul and reconstruction of the Khatyn Memorial, and the construction of the Republican Centre for Patriotic Education of Youth (on the basis of the Kobrin fortification of the Brest Fortress).
In order to stimulate the activity of the student teams working at the sites with the status of the All-Belarusian or regional (Minsk city) youth construction sites, a competition for the best student team is held annually, based on the results of which a passing banner is awarded.
