In particular, the Head of State stressed that the practice of pardoning convicts will continue in Belarus, “I will continue it, since this is my job. It is a constitutional duty of the President to pardon a person, and it must be observed. Therefore, we will continue this practice.”

A clarifying question from one of the students followed: a girl wondered whether the President have a trust in those convicted of extremist crimes whom he pardoned. Aleksandr Lukashenko shared his opinion, “I hope so. Of course, among them there will be those who promised, repented that they would change their position, would not interfere with other people... It happens that they violate their obligations. Not everyone keeps their promises. But it is necessary to trust people.”

“Do you think it's worth giving people a second chance after all?” the student asked, and Aleksandr Lukashenko responded, “Of course. People should always be given a chance. When making personnel appointments, I always tell people not to hurry in decision-making and give others a chance. It is always necessary to give a chance to a person and to make him take on responsibility. If he does not fulfil these obligations, so what’s the sense in any further talks with him?”
