Lukashenko expects Belarus to become SCO full member in July 2024
Belarus expects to become a full member of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO) in July 2024 – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus, Yerlan Baizhanov
The Belarusian leader reminded that this year Kazakhstan is presiding over the CSTO and the SCO, while documents on Belarus’ membership in the SCO were ratified in February, “We’re very grateful to you for this. The SCO next meeting will take place in Astana in July 2024. It would be very symbolic, and we would welcome it, if Belarus became a full-fledged member of the SCO in Astana. We will ask you about this, since a lot depends on the presiding party.”
The Head of State added that Belarus’ Foreign Ministry still needs to actively work in this regard.
The meeting also tackled the international situation in general descried by the President of Belarus, “The situation in the world is difficult. This affects us (Kazakhstan, Belarus) and our relations, especially the threat of sanctions policy from the West. However, we’re liaising and must find directions without creating problems for Kazakhstan.”
