Lukashenko: Belarus’ defence system created

A state defence system has been created in Belarus, and now it is necessary to check it thoroughly – as stated by President Aleksandr Lukashenko during his today’s working trip to the Brest Region

The Head of State noted that Belarus is a compact, not large country in terms of population, and – due to its economic capabilities – it cannot run a large army.

“Therefore, we need to adapt ourselves and attract people's militia, the territorial defence and our Armed Forces. We can easily gather half a million of men and provide them with weapons. To do this, it is necessary to have unity and discipline in the country – and we have this. Therefore, we are able to increase the size of our army to half a million of people in a period of danger. In addition, we will have the territorial defence (we should look attentively at what sort of territorial defence is needed, taking into account modern combat) and people's militia – so that every person who does not join the army can protect their house. Our system has been defined, it has been practically created. We are checking it out now. The State Secretary [of the Security Council] has been tasked to check all these aspects attentively, not for show, and to focus on the army and people's militia. In short, we have already created a defence system for our country,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
