KGB about foreign citizens convicted of espionage in Belarus: we are not exchanging anyone
A large number of foreign citizens, including from Poland, the Baltic States and other Western countries, are serving sentences in Belarus’ places of detention for co-operation with the special services of foreign states – as noted by Konstantin Bychek, the Head of the State Security Committee’s Investigation Department, in his talk with the First Information Channel, sb.by reports
"These individuals have been convicted of espionage and espionage activities," Mr. Bychek said. “Their guilt was established by court verdicts on the basis of irrefutable evidence, including confessions.”
The KGB employee added that representatives of foreign special services regularly address the State Security Committee with proposals to exchange these persons for citizens of the Republic of Belarus who stay in their prisons.
“At the same time, they offer robbers, rapists, scammers, drug addicts and others for exchange. In this regard, the KGB official position is that we are not exchanging anyone. There are no citizens of the Republic of Belarus in Poland, the Baltic States or other Western countries who collaborated with the KGB, were convicted of that and are serving their sentences there,” Mr. Bychek informed.
