Head of Belarus’ State Border Committee: number of provocations by Ukraine significantly decreased

The situation in the southern section of the state border of the Republic of Belarus remains tense, though border guards note a significant decrease in the number of provocations by the Ukrainian military – as stated by Konstantin Molostov, the Chairman of the State Border Committee, following a meeting with President of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko on ensuring the country's military security in the southern operational area that was held in the Luninets District of the Brest Region on July 13th

From the point of view of the protection of Belarus’ state border, the situation on the southern borders remains difficult, since military operations are underway in neighbouring Ukraine. With this in view, Mr. Molostov noted, “The density of mine-explosive barriers near the state border is increasing, and the main directions of movement to checkpoints and key roads are primarily blocked. The frequency of reconnaissance of our territory remains, including with the help of unmanned aerial vehicles. At the same time, we note a significant decrease in the number of provocations by the military of neighbouring Ukraine.”

Since the border guards’ main task is to ensure security of the state border and the peace of citizens, they will continue to perform tasks in an enhanced mode – following an instruction of President Aleksandr Lukashenko and based on the assessment of the situation. As noted by Mr. Molostov, there have been no new provocations near the state border or potential grounds for them in the recent days.
