Gryzlov: Russia fully supports Belarus’ desire to join SCO friendly family
The Russian Federation fully supports the desire of Belarus to become part of the friendly family of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation – as stated by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Boris Gryzlov
He recalled that Belarus began its journey to the SCO back in 2010, becoming a dialogue partner of the organisation, and in 2015 the country received an observer status.
“Of course, Russia fully supports Belarus’ desire to become part of the friendly family of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation, which has been working productively for many years in the interests of maintaining peace, security and stability in the region, promoting economic development and building a democratic, just world order. I am convinced that, as a member of the SCO, the Republic of Belarus will make a significant contribution to achieving the goals set for the organisation,” the diplomat said.
He stressed that participation in the SCO will give Belarus a number of undeniable and especially relevant additional opportunities in today’s realities. These include full-format access to numerous programmes and projects in the field of economics, finance, trade, logistics. Great prospects for co-operation will also open up in the field of security and the fight against crime, infrastructure development, environmental protection and many other areas of regional interaction.
“Russia and Belarus have extensive experience of constructive and fruitful liaisons within the framework of the Union State. Belarus is our reliable partner on the platforms of integration associations: the CIS, the EAEU, the CSTO. With this in mind, Belarus’ joining the SCO will contribute to the further consolidation of the Euro-Asian region as a new pole of power. I proceed from the fact that the summit in Samarkand will be an important step in this direction,” concluded Boris Gryzlov.
