Greek PM: EU was wrong when hoped for permanent protection from the United States
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said Europeans thought that the United States would always protect them, so Europe did not need to invest in its own defence – and that turned out to be a big mistake, TASS reports
Mr. Mitsotakis noted that Europe used to think that the United States would always provide protection, so it did not need to focus on its own defence. According to the Greek PM, that was a big mistake.
Asked if there is any hope that the EU will be able to agree on the creation of a common European defence, army and missile defence umbrella in conditions when it is very difficult for the EU countries to reach agreement on much simpler issues, Mr. Mitsotakis said it’s not known, but the war between Russia and Ukraine changed the situation on the continent.
