Deputy Prime Minister: trade barrier removal a recurrent issue for CIS

At the 104th session of the CIS Economic Council that took place in Moscow on November 29th, participants discussed trade liberalisation prospects and removal of trade barriers between the Commonwealth nations, said Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Igor Petrishenko

According to the Deputy PM, the Belarusian side made proposals on how to help optimise industrial co-operation bodies' operations within the Commonwealth. The Belarusian government expects them to be developed further.

“Removal of barriers impeding mutual trade and limiting exceptions from the free trade regime remain recurrent issues on the CIS economic agenda. The steps we take should help promote development of our multilateral co-operation that would benefit all sides,” Mr. Petrishenko emphasised.

He went on to reveal that the Economic Council participants discussed prospects for further liberalisation of services exchange within the Commonwealth of Independent States.

“A relevant agreement is already in force in Belarus, Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. After it takes effect in the rest of the countries, further steps in that direction will become possible,” elaborated the Deputy PM.

Economic results presented by the Commonwealth’s industrial co-operation bodies and the function of the Interstate Council on Exhibition, Fair and Congress Activities were also reviewed at the meeting, concluded Igor Petrishenko.
