Copenhagen, Kiev becoming twin cities
Copenhagen and Kiev will become twin cities, TASS reports with reference to a press release of the Danish capital’s Mayor’s Office posted on January 10th
The decision was made ‘to demonstrate support for Kiev and Ukraine’ and to show that the cities will co-operate in the future over restoration of the Ukrainian capital.
"Copenhagen supports Ukrainians and Kiev. Over a year, we have welcomed several thousand Ukrainians, and we are doing everything possible to help them in difficult times. But I hope that we can do even more for their homeland," Copenhagen Mayor Sophie Hestorp Andersen explained.
According to the press release, the Mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, contacted the Mayor of Copenhagen to conclude an agreement between the two capitals. Experts are currently working on a document that is to be further approved by the local authorities. It is assumed that the agreement will be valid for three years.
