Belarus’ State Authority for Military Industry: test of domestic missile for Buk-MB2 air defence system successfully completed
The Belarusian State Authority for Military Industry has successfully conducted the final stage of testing of the domestic 9M318 anti-aircraft guided missile, which increased the striking range of the Buk-MB2 air defence system to 70km, sb.by reports citing the State Authority for Military Industry
“On December 10th, the first domestic anti-aircraft guided missile developed by the State Authority for Military Industry was successfully tested at the aviation range in co-operation with Belarus’ Defence Ministry. The live firing was the final stage in the development of the Belarusian Buk-MB2 air defence system, which has been adopted into service with the domestic 9M318 anti-aircraft guided missile,” the Belarusian department noted.
The State Authority for Military Industry explained that the 9M318 anti-aircraft guided missile is designed to destroy high-speed manoeuvring aerodynamic targets, tactical ballistic, cruise, air and anti-ship missiles and helicopters (including those in hover mode) in conditions of intense electronic countermeasures, as well as surface and radio-contrast ground targets.
“The missile was designed using modern technologies taking into account the world technical achievements in the field of rocket construction with the use of composite materials. A special feature of the 9M318 missile is the active homing head, which makes it possible to hit targets, including those with a low reflective surface, with a higher probability, as well as to free the missile’s target channel without waiting for the target to be hit,” the State Authority for Military Industry underlined.
