Belarus received unanimous support from SCO member states in its aspiration to become full member of the organisation
Belarus has received unanimous support in obtaining the status of a full member of the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation – as stated by the President of Belarus, Aleksandr Lukashenko, at a meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in Samarkand, BelTA reports
Belarus has been a SCO dialogue partner since 2010, and an observer in the organisation since 2015.
“We had enough time to compare the goals and objectives of the organisation with the interests of our state, to assess the tense and constructive nature of its work, and also to be convinced of our own strengths and capabilities,” the Head of State said.
“We are very grateful for the unanimous support in obtaining the status of a full member,” Aleksandr Lukashenko asserted.
According to the Head of State, taking into account the strategically important geographical position, Belarus is able to organically complement the structure of the organisation.
“We can offer our transit, industrial, scientific potential, experience in peacekeeping and multilateral diplomacy,” he added.
