Belarus’ State Border Committee: three foreigners killed on EU border, two more found beaten

The authorities of the neighbouring EU countries, despite the ongoing facts of the death of foreign citizens at the border, do not stop their practice of forcible displacement and abandonment of vulnerable categories of people in a life-threatening situation, sb.by reports with reference to the State Border Committee

“On the evening of May 6th, two men of non-Slavic appearance were found by a border patrol on the Belarusian-Polish border in the Pruzhany District [Brest Region]. An ambulance team arrived and took the foreigners to the hospital, where bruises of varying severity were diagnosed, in addition to incised wounds,” the source informed.

According to the State Border Committee, the victims were Afghan citizens. The refugees said that Polish security forces beat them during their detention and forcibly pushed them through an animal gate into the territory of Belarus.

“Such violations of human rights and disregard for moral norms on the part of European states continue to condemn refugees to certain death. Over the past week, Belarusian border guards have recorded the deaths of three refugees at the border with the EU countries. On May 3rd, the bodies of two foreigners were found on the border with Latvia, and on May 5th, another one was found on the border with Poland. An investigative task force went to the scenes to establish the circumstances of their death. In total, since 2021, Belarus’ border guards have registered the death of 52 foreigners on the border with the neighbouring countries of the European Union: 25 cases on the border with Poland, 9 – with Lithuania, and 18 – with Latvia," the State Border Committee informed.
