"He is a patriotic, normal person. Therefore, I will definitely consider his application which he has addressed to me. We will study all the issues further, and I will definitely consider his application,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed.

The Head of State also informed that he had instructed law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of Tomasz Szmydt, “So that these scoundrels do not kill him. Actually, he says he knows what he is doing. He is a brave man. He is a normal person, with a clear mind – as far as I know by now.”

As reported recently, Polish judge Tomasz Szmydt has asked for protection from the Belarusian authorities. “I would like to allow myself to address President Aleksandr Lukashenko directly," the Pole said. "I really apologise for my boldness, but I will allow myself to ask for custody, protection of the President and Belarus in general."

Tomasz Szmydt is a judge of the 2nd division of the Voivodeship Administrative Court in Warsaw, who previously held various positions in Poland’s judicial system and justice authorities and headed the legal department at the Polish National Judicial Council.

Due to his disagreement with the policy and actions of the authorities, the man had to leave Poland out of necessity. He is currently in Belarus. Tomasz Szmydt was persecuted and threatened for his independent political position.
